The two-year MA programme is divided into four semesters that offers a combination of compulsory and optional courses and two courses in Dissertation Writing spread over two semesters. At the end of second semester, students will chose a theme of research and will work with a faculty member on the chosen topic towards writing a dissertation. The one-year MA programme is a compact and eclectic selection of courses with opportunities of specialisation and research. 

The pedagogical processes will be innovative not only in terms of using new modes of teaching-learning but also in terms of taking up new and contemporary issues and phenomena. The courses in both the MA programmes enable students to critically engage with sociological and anthropological theories as well as contemporary social theory, conceptual tools and imperatives of methodological innovations, and to develop new areas of enquiries. The context, which will constitute a constant reference point for the students, will be that of South Asian societies.

A candidate must have passed Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+4 pattern in any Social Science discipline from a recognized institution or an examination recognized by the University as its equivalent with a minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade)

A candidate must have passed B.A./B.Sc. degree under 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 pattern from a recognized institution or an examination recognized by the University as its equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks (or an equivalent grade)

Note: Vacant seats in one category will be transferred to another category.

• The duration of the Entrance Test will be 2 hours.
• The question paper will consist of 70 multiple choice questions.
• There will be no negative marking.

The question will test the applicant’s subject knowledge at the under-graduate level and his/her general knowledge pertaining to South Asia and the world.
