The PhD programme offers research opportunities in a variety of important areas of law taught and researched by the faculty with a view to building capacity of the South Asian countries in the domain of law. Besides teaching such compulsory courses as Research Methodology and requiring the writing of a seminar paper, the Programme enables the students to take a few optional courses as part of their course work. The Programme then descends into the writing of a research proposal for confirmation to the PhD programme. The programme is further and commonly diversified by making it attractive to professionals/working people.
Candidates must have completed a minimum of 17 years of formal education with Master’s Degree in Law from an institution recognized by the government of any SAARC country, with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks or an equivalent grade.
Candidates with 4-year Bachelor degree in the subject are also eligible for admission to PhD programme provided they have secured a minimum 75% marks or equivalent grade.
The number of seats through the Entrance Test mode is 6, while the number of seats through the Direct mode shall be based on availability.

International Environmental Law: Sustainable development, precautionary principal, common but differentiated responsibility, contemporary developments.
International Human Rights Law: Civil and political rights, economic, social and cultural rights, current developments.
